Explore the art of mosaics in this engaging 5 hour workshop. Using paints and foils you will create and design with tempered glass. You will learn how to design and break tempered glass, and then use it in a finished piece of art or a picture frame. In this class you will also learn to cut accessory glass and pottery to use in your mosaics. Using tempered glass along with ceramic, stone, glass, and found objects, students will design a mosaic with a variety of materials provided. You’re also welcome to bring personal items like trinkets or jewelry to incorporate into your piece. Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, you’ll learn the mortar method—no messy grout required! This class offers a fun, supportive environment to spark your creativity and is perfect for anyone curious about trying mosaics. All materials, including a substrate base, are included.
Course materials/fee:
- A materials fee of $25 will include a base, mortar, and a set amount of material for your projects.
- All tools will be provided.
- Students are welcome to bring personal items like trinkets or jewelry to incorporate into their piece.

Hand building (pinch, coil, slabs) and decoration techniques will be taught through demonstrations and critiques. The focus will be on having fun while experimenting and learning a variety of techniques.
Each student is taught individually at their own experience level. Create your own ideas for projects and personal goals.
Tuition includes 1 bag of clay.
The firing fee is an additional 6 cents per cubic inch.

Scott will coach the class in a dynamic way of seeing shape, value and color. He has taught figure painting in workshops around the country and takes a hands-on approach with demonstrations and continual class-wide and individual instruction. Through short and long poses of nude and clothed models, students will build mastery which can be used to paint any subject. This popular ongoing event is an open life drawing session where students and professional artists alike may draw at their own pace from various live models to study the anatomy of the human form. We begin with four five-minute poses to warm up, the balance of the class the poses are of a 20-minute duration, allowing for a more developed, finished drawing. While there is no formal instruction, the atmosphere is friendly camaraderie and mutual support in building confidence.

Using non-toxic printing inks participants will learn to make monotypes on the studio press as well as experience printing by hand on Japanese paper without a press. The intaglio processes of drypoint, mezzotint and carborundum aquatint will also be taught by the instructor, a leading master printer, and these techniques will be incorporated with the monotype process to create unique monoprints. No solvents are used and clean up is with Dawn detergent and water creating a fume free environment.
