Discover the beauty of the summer harvest in this beginner-friendly 3-week class designed for nature lovers and artists alike. Introduction to the (Surprising) Botanical Art of Vegetables in Colored Pencil will guide you step-by-step through the essentials of drawing and coloring heirloom tomatoes (and other colorful veggies) in colored pencil. Colored pencils are a versatile, affordable and portable medium that produces stunning illustrations (and clean up is a breeze!). You’ll learn materials and methods including colored pencil strokes and how to blend and layer to achieve realistic textures and vibrant hues in a vegetable of your choice — or, use the instructor’s line drawing to learn the colored pencil application, which you can then apply to other subjects. You’ll enjoy the availability of the instructor for one-on-one attention and answers to your questions; or, feel free to work on your own.
No prior drawing experience is required—just curiosity and an open mind. By the end of the course, you’ll have completed your own detailed botanical drawing of a heirloom tomato or other vegetable (or more) from the garden and gained the confidence to continue exploring this timeless art form.
Come join us as we explore the meditative process of colored pencils.
