One of the few works produced while Awrang and his family were living on the US Military base in Qatar; this painting evokes the difficulty of being between worlds – having left home yet not knowing what the future will bring. The dark palette and active composition reflect the environment in which this work was produced. Of the Military base Awrang says, “the rooms were dark, the bathrooms were busy; we couldn’t go outside, we couldn’t even see the outside.” Despite the darkness enveloping him, at the center of this work there is glowing warmth in orange, red, and yellow – is his heart
