Location: The Norman Sunshine Center, 11 Green Hill Road, Washington

Join in on the fun in this inspiring, creative, and casual environment. Wherein children from region 12 schools and beyond can get together, socialize, have snacks, and get to know one another ahead of their coming together at Shepaug. With consideration to the age of the students, WAA wants this young generation to have a space to create fairly and freely, setting project goals around an agreed upon theme rather than a lesson on technique. The students will have the opportunity to take their fundamentals gained throughout the school year, and apply them in an open forum where they essentially create their own curriculum. Lending to a space where collaboration, individuality, and inclusiveness are celebrated and flourishes and instill a sense of community and empowerment.

Cancellation Policy

Participants who withdraw from a class must request a refund or credit more than 14 days prior to the start of the class in order to receive a full refund or credit (minus a $20 cancellation fee or 10% for one-day workshops). Participants who cancel a registration between 8 and 14 days prior to the start of the class may receive a 50% refund or credit. Participants who cancel a registration less than 7 days prior to the start of the class will not receive a refund or credit. Washington Art Association does not offer prorating for classes, and there are no make-ups, credits or refunds if a student misses a class. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Class Description:

This Class simplifies your understanding of how complementary colors build the complete canvas space to elevate the quality of your artwork. Radiant Light, Atmosphere, Form & Shadow all come from essential contrasts on your palette that allow you to create any personal expression you wish from a suggestion of reality to abstraction.

Quick charcoal sketches help you design the space to see how the pattern of light holds your composition together & serves as a visual map to follow into color. Then your natural brushstrokes transform surface appearance into a poetic interpretation of your original idea with minimal detail.

You’ll be in control of the language of color with the freedom to explore unlimited possibilities. Bring your ongoing artwork for evaluation, or create a new series. All ideas and individual plans are welcome.

Prior experience with the Materials is recommended.
