Botanicals, Packaging and Photos – Oh My! Two-Day Collage on Packaging Workshop with Virginia Zimmermann (Wednesday, July 15 – Thursday, July 16 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Two-day workshop
Wednesday, July 15 – Thursday, July 16 | 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: *Norman Sunshine Center, 11 Green Hill Road, Washington, CT
In this workshop we are going to use recycled packaging as the base of our collages. Packaging offers a unique opportunity to work outside the usual rectangle or square base. You will be building a neutral color collage from assorted ephemera items (anything paper – old documents, stamps, sewing pattern papers, tickets, envelopes, maps). Keep an open mind – you never know what will mix and match. Bring some personal ephemera to make it special. If you don’t want to cut up the originals – xerox them or photo and print them.
Next, we will use an assortment of acrylic paint to create a few painted pages which will become your chosen flowers, petals, leaves and stems. Pick a flower which has a
defined center or seed pod. Maybe even your favorite. The flowers will be larger than life-size. Lastly bring a few small photos of faces (approx 1.5’- 2”) these will become the center of the flowers.
The process:
1. Create the background collages – let dry
2. Create the painted papers
- Would be a very good professional development for K-12 Art Educators
- Ideal ages of workshop Participants – Teens – adults
- No prerequisites
Materials to bring:
- A selection of personal ephemera – ephemera is a collection of old documents, stamps, wrapping papers, sewing pattern papers, envelopes and paper items
- Small black and white printed or xeroxed photos for flower center
Instructor material fee of $10 (payable to the instructor)
