Description
Oil pastels are an extremely versatile and easy-to-use wax-based medium for both beginners and experienced artists and are available in hundreds of colors. The first oil pastels were invented in Japan in 1925 (you may remember cray-pas from childhood) but in the 1940s Picasso collaborated with Sennelier to develop a professional grade crayon that can be applied to any surface. They can be used as a crayon-like drawing tool or manipulated with solvents for a more painterly effect. Unlike oil paint there is no waiting time– paintings can be brought to a finish in one session. Bring your own artwork or photo as a reference, work in a non-representational way, or work from a simple set up still life provided in the workshop. Demonstrations of various techniques will be included.
Do not confuse with SOFT pastels.
