Description
2 mornings of sketching and watercolor painting in the beautiful and varied gardens of Hollister House.
Begin or refine the basic skills of watercolor: transparency, layering, color mixing, wet on wet, dry brush and more, all while developing your own portable style en plein air.
All levels welcome.
Materials List:
HB Pencil
Kneaded Eraser
Watercolor block (Arches or Fabriano) or pad -minimum size 9x12 or 11x14
Brushes:
Variety of ROUND, brushes- if budget is an issue, you can get away with one size 8. I recommend Winsor and Newton Synthetic Sable, professional.
optional brushes-Mop and Flats
It’s useful to have one less expensive ROUND brush for mixing colors.
Paint:
A studio or professional set of 12 colors—Winsor Newton, Schminke, Sennelier or Holbein
OR
Watercolor Tubes and a FLAT butcher’s tray palette
2 yellows, one warm and one cool - Lemon Yellow and Hansa Yellow
2 reds, warm and cool- Quinac Rose and Pyrrol Scarlet
2 blues, warm and cool French Ultramarine and Phthalo Blue
Raw Umber
Burnt Sienna
Optional: Water soluble colored pencils
Optional: micro pen
paper towel
Water bottle and cup
Masking tape optional
Stool or portable chair, although there are a few seats scattered about the gardens
Sunscreen and Hat
Also optional but useful : Small sketchbook for notes
