No-Press Needed: Printmaking with Encaustic and Pigment Sticks on Encaustiflex 

$10 Materials Fee, Payable to Instructor

In this workshop, artists will learn various techniques of Encaustic printmaking on the heated palette using oil-based Pigment Sticks as our ink. Also covered will be aspects of color mixing and layering to get luminous, complex, multi-layered prints and paintings. We will work on Encaustiflex, an absorbent microfiber paper that holds lots of paint layers. No press is required so you can take these techniques right back to your studio. Having a variety of printmaking techniques at hand allows you to never be at a loss for something to get you going in the studio. Just build and layer. All levels are welcome.

Class structure

We will first learn about how to begin a monotype with dry media, suminagashi marbling and encaustic monoprinting directly on the heated palette. We will then add printmaking techniques, including using R&F Pigment Sticks oil paint as our ink, building layers of visual complexity. We will then work on resolving our pieces into fully realized artworks.
