This instructed class will provide students with the fundamental basis for how to begin and complete oil painting based on direct observation and technical understanding of the medium itself as well as provide students with a foundation of essential color and form theory. In addition to lectures on topics of light, form, color, demonstrations of techniques will also be shared.

Cancellation Policy
Participants who withdraw from a class must request a refund or credit more than 14 days prior to the start of the class in order to receive a full refund or credit (minus a $20 cancellation fee or 10% for one-day workshops). Participants who cancel a registration between 8 and 14 days prior to the start of the class may receive a 50% refund or credit. Participants who cancel a registration less than 7 days prior to the start of the class will not receive a refund or credit. Washington Art Association does not offer prorating for classes, and there are no make ups, credits or refunds if a student misses a class. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Materials:
- Palette – wood, plastic (masonite also very good option)
- Small palette knife
- Oil colors* (either Old Holland, Winsor & Newton, Rembrandt, Gamblin, Rowney, Schminke or Williamsburg) *list will expand as the course progresses
- Ivory Black
- English Red or Flesh Ochre
- Transparent Red Oxide
- Alizarin Crimson
- Burnt Sienna
- Yellow Ochre
- Transparent Yellow Oxide
- Terre Verte
- Raw Umber
- Cobalt Blue
- At least 2 surfaces 18″x 24″ (wood, stretched linen/canvas (to be prepared with gesso, sizing (hide glue) or heavy paper with shellac)
- Small bottle of Cold Pressed Linseed Oil
- Distilled Turpentine or Odorless Turpinoi
- 2 metal paint cups
- 4-8 natural hair bristle brushes (filbert, flat, round); sizes 1/4″ to 1″
- Paper towels
- Brush cleaning tank
- Tarp or drop cloth for working station
